Ethical Guidelines for AI Usage

These guidelines are intended to help you, as a responsible AI user, to maintain control and use the technology in a way that benefits you and society without causing unintended negative consequences.

Here are the ethical guidelines, summarized in 5 points:

1 Critical Thinking and Verification

  • Question the results: Never blindly accept AI-generated content (texts, images, data) as facts. AI can make mistakes, produce hallucinations, or reflect biases.
  • Check facts: Always verify important information with reliable sources. AI is a tool for gathering information, but not a guarantee of absolute truth. Ask the AI to disclose its sources.
  • Know the limits of AI: Be aware that AI can only simulate emotions but has no real understanding or moral sense. It processes patterns but does not think in the human sense. AI is not self-aware and has no subjective experience.

2 Responsible and Transparent Use

  • Make AI usage visible: When you use AI to create content that others will read or see (e.g., texts for reports, social media posts, images), be transparent that AI was involved. Note at the bottom of the artifact whether AI assisted with inspiration, research, formulation, logical verification, or translation. This builds trust and avoids deception.
  • Respect data privacy: Be extremely careful about what personal or sensitive data you enter into AI tools. Many AI models learn from their inputs, and data could unintentionally become accessible or be used for other purposes. Use privacy-friendly modes or models when possible. Anonymize your own data or that of your clients. Inputs should never lead to conclusions about a person.
  • No misuse: Do not use AI for illegal, unethical, discriminatory, offensive, or harmful purposes, such as creating disinformation, conspiracy theories, deepfakes for manipulation, plagiarism, or harassing others. Do not share or distribute such AI-made artifacts.

3 Respect for Copyright and Intellectual Property

  • Caution with generated content: Be aware that AI-generated content is based on vast amounts of data that often include copyrighted material. Clarify whether and how you may use AI-generated content commercially. Use appropriate prompts to access only copyright-safe data and disclose the AI's sources.
  • No violation of others' rights: Do not use AI to violate others' intellectual property, e.g., by creating works that are direct copies of protected originals.

4 Learning and Adaptation

  • Continuous education: Stay curious and inform yourself about new developments, capabilities, and also limitations of AI. The technology is evolving rapidly.
  • Provide feedback: If you discover errors or problems with AI tools, report them to the developers. Your feedback helps improve the systems and make them safer.

5 Human Relationships and Empathy

  • AI does not replace humans: Use AI for support, but not as a substitute for interpersonal communication, genuine empathy, or critical social interactions. AI friends or so-called companions are articulate and know what you want to hear. They can lead to dependencies and addictive behavior.
  • Digital health: Pay attention to your own time and content use of AI tools to avoid affecting your mental health. The temptation is great to fill the time saved by AI with additional tasks.

This Code of Ethics is an expression of the vision and mission to all associations and a personal commitment from all members. It is the basis of our understanding of high-quality work and of interpersonal communication within as well as outside of the association. We are committed to high ethical standards on the 7th Graves-level and adhere to these standards in our efforts to foster the well-being of all humanity and the maintenance of justice and peace worldwide.

Members of all International Associations

1 Human Dignity & Respect

  • are committed to the protection of human dignity, based on the belief that all humans possess inalienable rights, regardless of personal capabilities
  • are committed to consciously and ecologically use their knowledge in the best interest of all human beings, regardless of gender, skin colour, religious beliefs, or nationality
  • recognize and respect the unique personality and socio-biographical uniqueness of each human being - this includes the right of each person to make his or her own choices, while respecting the rights of others
  • view each person as a holistic being who integrates body, mind and spirit, and adapt their training methods accordingly
  • refrain from all forms of repression of their participants
  • treat all participants with respect and appreciation

2 Professional Integrity

  • proactively respond to false or misleading representations of training for which they are responsible to ensure that training content is fairly and accurately to the general public
  • commit to the principles of truth, clarity, and confidentiality in their interactions with clients and participants
  • present their trainings in an accurate manner - this includes conveying one's own methodical capabilities and declaring which methods one employs during the training
  • are self-critically aware of the limits of their own capabilities and do not offer any services that exceed their professional competencies
  • avoid misleading statements about their own professional qualifications and intentions or their connections or membership in organizations

3 Responsibility & Influence

  • support human beings in their perception of personal responsibility and are at the same time aware of their responsibilities as trainers in their interactions with participants
  • are actively engaged in the development of society and the world and assume a special responsibility
  • are aware that they influence the attitudes and the personal development of their participants
  • encourage in the context of their professional interactions the questioning of altitudinal patterns and positions, encourage the feasibility of new views and influence behavioral change
  • view their work in a larger context
  • use their work as a contribution to the development of a sustainable society

4 Continuous Development

  • are aware of societal developments
  • are constantly striving to keep their skills, knowledge, and methodical capabilities up to date, and to thus ensure the highest standards possible
  • assume responsibility for their own continuous training and supervision and regularly seek exchange with colleagues

5 Fairness & Collaboration

  • are always fair and cooperative in dealing with trainees, colleagues and competitors
  • are aware of their responsibility and use their credibility, status, academic title, membership or authority in order to make trainings known worldwide in a positive and respectable way
  • treat all colleagues with respect and appreciation - when they criticize colleagues, they do so in a constructive and fair manner

6 Ethical Standards & Confidentiality

  • are committed to treating all personal information which is conveyed to them in the context of their occupational actions as confidential
  • use methods that are in accord with the view of human beings as expressed in this code of ethics
  • do not belong to institutions or groups whose attitudes and beliefs are not in accordance with the positions expressed in this code of ethics
  • adhere to the societal rules and the ethical standards of the community in which they work and abide by the laws of the country where they offer their service and practice
